Overview

HomeschoolLeap is built on a simple principle: your data is yours. We collect the minimum information needed to make the product work, and we will never sell, share, or monetize your data.

Using HomeschoolLeap without an account

You can use the compliance wizard, view state requirements, and generate documents without creating an account. When you use HomeschoolLeap this way:

  • All data you enter stays in your browser and is not sent to our servers
  • Documents are generated entirely on your device using your browser
  • We do not track or store your wizard inputs
  • Standard web server logs (IP address, pages visited) may be recorded by our hosting provider

Creating an account

If you choose to create an account for deadline tracking and reminders, we collect and store:

  • Email address: for account access and deadline reminders
  • Password: stored as a one-way hash (bcrypt); we cannot read your password
  • Your name: for display on your dashboard
  • State and pathway selection: to calculate your compliance deadlines
  • Children’s first names, grade levels, enrollment status, and IEP status: to personalize your compliance plan and deadlines
  • Deadline completion status: to track your progress

This data is stored in a secure database hosted by Supabase (PostgreSQL). It is used solely to provide the HomeschoolLeap service to you.

What we do NOT do

  • We do not sell your data to anyone, for any reason
  • We do not share your data with school districts, governments, or third parties
  • We do not use your data for advertising or marketing
  • We do not build profiles of homeschool families for anyone to query
  • We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics that identify you

Children’s privacy (COPPA)

HomeschoolLeap is designed for parents, not children. We collect children’s first names and grade levels only because parents provide this information to generate their compliance plan.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. All information about children is provided by their parent or legal guardian. Parents can request deletion of their children’s information at any time (see “Your rights” below).

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how we use it
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell any)
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights

Your rights

You can at any time:

  • Access your data: view everything we store about you on your dashboard
  • Request deletion: email us and we will delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data: contact us for a copy of all data associated with your account

Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, we will remove all your data within 30 days. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days for security purposes.

Security

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and cannot be recovered. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Database access is restricted to the application. We follow security best practices, but no system is 100% secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of HomeschoolLeap after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
